Detailing the Dezkin - The Great MARI Texturing Competition

With the release of MARI 1.2 we asked you to start detailing our Dezkin in our MARI Paint and Texturing contest.

We've had a great response and we'd like to set up a special mailing list so we can send you submission reminders, enter you in a prize draw and keep you up-to-date on your competitors' work in progress.

As you might have guessed, we're on the lookout for the world's best MARI artist and we've joined up with NVidia, CG Society and 3D Artist Magazine to find them.

We're supplying, Dezkin, the model shown above for you to texture and if you can put the right detail in our devil you'll be rewarded with some very nice goodies indeed.

If you don't have a copy of MARI you can download a 15 day trial. If your trial ends before the competition closing date just email mari-challenge@thefoundry.co.uk and we will extend it.

The Judging Panel

The competition will be judged by MARI product manager, Jack Greasley, and well known texture artist and CG Talk host Leigh Van Der Byl.


While Leigh may be most well known on the web for being an administrator on the CG Talk forum, it's a lesser known fact that she has 10+ years of experience in the VFX industry on her resume, more than 20 feature films to her name and currently works as a senior texture painter at one of London's top VFX studios.

The Boring Bit

You can use any program to prepare the files but you MUST PAINT WITH MARI. By entering this competition you agree that any images you submit to this competition can and will be used for marketing purposes by The Foundry, NVidia, 3D Artist and CG Society without limitation. You must also have permission to distribute the textures you use or you will be disqualified.

The competition will close on Monday 7 March 2011. You must have permission to distribute the textures you use.
