Meet the executives


Alex Mahon, Chief Executive Officer

Alex Mahon is CEO of The Foundry. Alex joined The Foundry to spearhead the next stage of its development following the company’s acquisition by HgCapital for £200m in July 2015 and leads the team at a time of dynamic change and rapid growth.

Prior to this, Alex was chief executive officer of Shine Group for three years where she successfully completed the sale of the company into a new joint venture between 21st Century Fox and Apollo Global Management. She joined Shine as managing director in 2006 and built the group through M&A and organic growth into an organisation with 27 creative labels in 12 countries and £700m in revenues alongside founder Elisabeth Murdoch.  Ahead of this she had an extensive career in media organisations across Europe, at Talkback Thames, FremantleMedia Group and RTL Group. 

Alex started her career as a PhD physicist and then worked at strategy consultants Mitchell Madison Group as an internet retail expert before leading the European Young Astronauts. She is currently a non-executive director of Ocado Plc and The Edinburgh International Television Festival, chairman of the RTS Awards, serves on the DCMS advisory panel on the BBC and is also appeal chair of The Scar Free Foundation, a national charity pioneering and transforming medical research into disfigurement and lives in her London home with her four noisy children.

 

Bill Collis, President

Bill Collis is president and sits on The Foundry's board. His full-time role is to maintain the entrepreneurial spirit of the company by focussing on the new initiatives and technology partnerships that have characterised The Foundry’s impressive growth across media production, games and design. 

Bill has extensive experience in venture capital and private equity funding, intellectual property licensing, mergers and acquisitions and accessing international markets. Bill previously led the company as CEO, building the organisation from a niche, London-based visual effects software company into a high-growth global force, and his leadership skills earned him an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year award in 2012. Bill also has a PhD in signal processing, numerous patents, a major feature movie credit, plus a prestigious Scientific and Technical Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, for technology contributions to film.


Karen Slatford, Chairman

Karen Slatford, was appointed chairman in June 2009. She is currently senior independent director at Micro Focus. Karen has also served on the board of several other technology companies in the UK and internationally.

Prior to 2001, Karen worked for Hewlett Packard in a variety of sales and marketing roles. Her final position was vice president of worldwide sales and marketing and chairman of Hewlett Packard UK Ltd.


Simon Robinson, Co-Founder and Chief Scientist

With a BA Hons in Engineering and Computing from Cambridge University, Simon began his career at IBM Research in New York. He subsequently worked in technology development at companies including Digital Pictures, Rushes, Framestore and MPC, before starting up The Foundry in 1996.

Simon was awarded a Sci-Tech Academy Award© in 2007 for his work on the Furnace algorithms. He was also voted number 52 in Fast Company's 2010 annual ranking of the 100 most creative people in business and continues to play a key role in the direction and development of the company.


Jody Madden, Chief Customer Officer

As chief customer officer, Jody is responsible for the overall customer strategy and ensuring our customers’ needs remain at the heart of the business as the company continues its rapid growth. Jody joined The Foundry in September 2013 as its chief operating officer and was responsible for business operations, including overall planning and execution of the company strategy.
 

Prior to joining The Foundry, Jody served as the COO of Digital Domain Productions, Inc, where she oversaw business operations, production and technology, having previously served as head of production and director of technology operations. Before Digital Domain, she spent seven years at Industrial Light & Magic and Lucasfilm in a number of technology management roles. Jody holds a Bachelor's degree from Stanford University.


Martin Franks, Chief Financial Officer

Martin Franks is chief financial officer of The Foundry. Martin joined the company in 2015 following its acquisition by HgCapital to work with Alex and the team to deliver the next stage of its development. He has over 20 years of experience working with international businesses undergoing significant change and growth.

Martin started his career in the audit and consulting practices of PwC, and moved on to roles as controller and then CFO of LEWIS PR, a media relations consultancy specialising in the technology sector. Prior to joining The Foundry, Martin was CFO of SHL, a global talent measurement software and services business.
 
Martin has a MA (Hons) in French & German from Cambridge University and is a chartered accountant.

Jon Wadelton, Chief Technology Officer

Jon Wadelton is CTO of The Foundry. Jon has been instrumental in driving the engineering and product development of NUKE since he joined the Foundry in 2007. Since becoming CTO, Jon’s remit has expanded to include all IP at The Foundry, both existing in our current product range and beyond into our R&D.  

Jon has over 20 years experience in software leadership roles within the media production and telecom industries and holds a bachelor’s degree from La Trobe University.

 

Mike Pilcher, Chief Sales Officer

Before joining The Foundry, Mike was SVP and GM from EMEA and APAC at comScore. Prior to comScore Mike was President and COO of SAND. Mike has also worked at other leading software companies, Oracle Sybase, and Tenfold Corporation where as WW VP Sales for Tenfold Technology, Tenfold completed a highly successful IPO. Also working at a number of early-stage start-ups, Mike brings experience of working in large public companies, dynamic start-ups across multiple industry and geographic sectors. Mike is also the author of ProSultative Selling, a book focused on using digital marketing techniques in B2B sales.


Jill Ezard, Chief HR Officer

Before joining The Foundry, Jill was Global HR Director at Pace Plc and most recently, Chief HR Officer at Volex Plc. Her background includes HR roles across a broad spectrum of industries including technology, financial services, retail and manufacturing. Jill brings experience of working in large and medium-sized public companies with a global remit and a focus on change management.
