We headed to Vancouver for SIGGRAPH 2014

It was another jam packed SIGGRAPH, we had a fantastic line up of speakers as well as some exciting announcements (shh!), competitions and demos by The Foundry’s team.

We streamed live from our booth on Wednesday 13th August, bringing you 4 1/2 hours of presentations straight from the show.

Our awesome presenters wowed the audience in the conference centre and those watching at home, including the climax of our foodimals competition with Kris Pearn, where he drew the winning idea live!

Kris Pearn - Director, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 Director Kris Pearn joined us to share how FLIX has been killing the chaos in production at Sony Pictures Animation. Kris’s energy is so lively and infectious you can’t help but smile. He explained how integral FLIX was in the process for creating magical foodimals and much more!

Tom McHattie - Compositing Supervisor

Tom popped on the booth to show the amazing work Method Studios created for Transformers: Age of Extinction. He showed how they used key features within NUKE to deliver excellent visual effects for this and other blockbuster movies. 


The Foundry Workflow on upcoming feature The Boxtrolls

Mitch Prater - Shading System Architect

The talented people at LAIKA loaned us Mitch to share how KATANA, MARI  & NUKE featured heavily in the production of The Boxtrolls, a 3D stop-motion and CG hybrid animated feature from the creators of Coraline and Paranorman.

KATANA in Award winning TV Production

Colin Davies - VFX Supervisor

Spin VFX was one of the first mid-size studios to adopt KATANA back in spring 2012 where they have been using it in their film and TV pipeline. Colin showed how they use KATANA in their pipeline and how it enables them to to compete for a broader spectrum of work.

Aaron Limonick - Concept Artist

For over a decade, Aaron Limonick has been a concept artist in the entertainment industry, working in games and feature films. MODO has become an invaluable tool and piece of the puzzle for the concept art team over at Naughty Dog. Aaron told us why he loves MODO and how he even uses it in his spare time on personal creative projects.

Stepping up to NUKE on Brita Cola Rain commercial

Grant Miller - VFX Supervisor

Ever wondered what it would look like if it rained Cola on planet earth? Check out Ingenuity Engine’s Brita Cola Rain commercial. Grant explained how NUKE’s Deep Compositing tools helped prevent a ’total nightmare’ on this spot and why NUKE was the best tool for them on this project.

Brad Peebler - President of the Americas

The energetic and legendary Brad Peebler talked design in this daily spot where he showed how versatile The Foundry’s tools are in all parts of the creative process from pre-viz to concept design. Focus was on MODO and our, recently announced, COLORWAY application. 


Plus there were daily demos of NUKE 8 & MODO 801 by Mariana Acuña Acosta & Greg Brown.
